Getting
To Yangshuo from Outside China
Note : Flights from the UK have been used as an example for the moment.
Prices quoted here are an estimate only and were last updated in 2007.
The routing should be of interest though.
Interesting options are as follows :
Option
1
London->Beijing (BA OpenJaw £540 incl taxes),
Beijing->Guilin (£167),
Guilin->Shenzhen / Zhuhai (£65) [nr Hong Kong],
Hong Kong->London
This allows some sightseeing around Beijing obviously - Great
Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace etc.
There are tours that do all the travelling around for you which
you can join.
Hotels can be booked through Trailfinders
etc.

Forbidden
City, Beijing |
Option
2
London->Beijing Rtn (BA £520, Lufthansa ~£420),
Beijing->Guilin Rtn (~£167 each way - UK price)
This will
cost less than Option 1 if at least one of the internal journeys
is done by train (even 1st Class) which takes 24hrs.
There are very cheap deals on Lufthansa at the moment check
Trailfinders
or other discount agents.

Great Wall , Beijing |
Option
3
London->Hong Kong Rtn (BA ~£520, Austrian ~£420),
Hong Kong->Guilin (~£140)
Guilin->Shenzhen / Zhuhai (£65) + Jetcat to Hong Kong
This is probably cheaper than Option 2 & 3 and still allows
time for an experience of Hong Kong.
Flights to Guilin are much cheaper from the mainland cities
of Shenzhen / Zhuhai both of which can be reached by boat from
Hong Kong - just a little more time involved and hassle if your
in a rush.
It is also
possible to fly into Guangzhou airport, then take a connecting
flight to Guilin for 500-600 Pounds.

Hong Kong Island |
Option 4
London->Bangkok Rtn,
Bangkok->Guilin Rtn ( ~£150 1 way bought from Bangkok
Airways online)
This might not cost too much if the Bangkok Rtn is a good price.
Obviously this allows the benefit of a possible beach rest for
a few days.

Haad Khom, Koh Phan Gan, Thailand |
Other options require more time.
